2011: January 18: Parenting Resolutions: We will reflect back on 2010, rejoice in our successes and make renewed commitment to becoming the parents we want to be for 2011. February 22: Keeping Marriages Strong: What it takes to maintain strong relationships with our partners.
March 21: Adding a Sibling and Strengthening Sibling Bonds: Welcoming babies to our families is a wonderfully exciting time, but it can bring up issues for existing children. We will discuss strategies for helping smooth the transition. CANCELED DUE TO FAMILY EMERGENCY
April 18: Simplicity Parenting: We will discuss the book Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne, highlighting the techniques and tips the author recommends to help simplify our lives, which in turn can lead to calmer kids and more in-tune parents.
May 16: Feeding With Love and Respect at Every Age: We will discuss nurturing a taste for nutritious food, as well as any weaning or nutrition-related questions or concerns you may have. June 20: Potluck Picnic: Brunch at Bailey's! Please join us for some sprinkler park fun at Bailey Square Park from 10 am until noon; bring a dish to share (don't worry about the plates and silverware; we'll cover that!) and be sure to pack the sunscreen and maybe a hat for you and your wee one(s). This year, we chose Bailey Square Park because of the new splash pad, the free parking, and the intimate space. Hope to see you there! :-) July 18: Nighttime Parenting: As we all know, parenting is a 24/7 job, so come discuss the trials and triumphs related to parenting after the sun goes down. August 15: Positive Discipline: Sandy Blackard of the Language of Listening will be here to explore how saying what you see instead of what you think can change your most challenging moments with children into rewarding ones. If you can, please read the Say What You See Guide for Parents and Teachers prior to the meeting. Please come, though, even if you do not have a chance to read it before the meeting; we'd much rather see you than not! September 19: Education Opportunities in Austin. We will discuss the various options and resources available to Austinites for educating children... it's more extensive than you'd think! October 17: Nurturing Touch for All Ages: Touch is so important for us all! We will discuss ways to foster nurturing touch for babies and beyond. Registered massage therapists (and moms) Jane Sampson, Christen Roller, and Rachel Hostetler will be on hand to demonstrate infant massage, and we will discuss ways to foster the touch connection after babyhood.
November 21: Simplifying the Holidays: How to say no to excess commercialism and the stress of doing it all, and how to create soul-nurturing holidays instead. Our guest speaker will be Bernadette Noll, who is a mother of four, co-founder of Future Craft Collective and Slow Family Living, and co-author of the new book Make Stuff Together. Don't miss what she has to share!
December 19: Holiday Potluck: Please bring a dish to share and join us at the library for good food and good company! If desired, please share with us what topics and/or presenters you would especially like to see in the coming year. We look forward to seeing you!
